san diego

first things first. my current location is the library...blogging. gotta work on getting my priorities straight!

second. i'm finally posting pictures slash memories from my spring break to california. brace yourselves people, it will be a long one.

here's what we did in sunny san diego:

pretended to be hipsters and biked along pacific beach

visited with the super great and nice kashi people (and got some free food!)

went to the san diego zoo, found a dog and a cheetah that were best buds

then saw a pregnant giraffe

visited the island of coronado and tried to layout, pretending we couldn't feel the cold breeze

met one of the rad workers at nika water, got some free sunglasses

hiked torrey pines and gasped at the incredible view

visited almost every small beach town on the coast

ate some great treats

snuck in the worlds largest natural products expo and met tenley molzahn

realized this is where i want need to be. this is where i want to someday call home.

so this past summer was a wake up call for me in that i realized i have to find a job where i can 100% stand behind whatever the business is doing. i want to use the skills God blessed me with to change the world in some way. that could be through promoting healthy eating, sustainable living, or helping those in need. whatever it is, it needs to have purpose.

so y'all, check out this company. i think they are just the greatest. nika water (which means "to give") is a company that sells water bottles and donates 100% of their profits to support clean water projects in underdeveloped countries. they are doing something right over there! oh and when i am spring breakin' it up in cali, i get to meet with one of their reps. how awesome is that??

i feel like such an adult now.

yesterday, with the simple click of a button and an offering of a card, i planned a trip for me and three of my closest friends at baylor. i booked a flight, hotel, and rental car. who am i, an old woman? with all that, i am happy to announce my spring break will be spent in none other than...san diego!

i have felt like skipping all day long with pure joy. california is my absolute favorite place. the people, the food, the mountains and beaches, and the oh-so-chill culture - i love everything about it.

my goal until march 7th is to find one special thing to do while i am there. so my friends, have any suggestions? have you ever traveled to san diego? i would love to hear your tips and tidbits of your travels to california.

PLACE project

ok, i have to get to california somehow. this just came out...there is a new development in the makings in ventura, cali that connects artists with the community with the environment. it's an eco-friendly building project that allows artists of all kinds to set up shop for affordable prices. would you want to visit there?

human nest

speaking of my new little friend i got for my birthday, could you imagine staying a night in a human nest?

imagine sleeping under the stars at the treebones resort. then waking up to the serene waters at the big sur coast in california. who's with me in finding it?

carmel vacation

ooooh my goodness i LOVE california! like i have been planning out how i can make this dream of living there a reality. someone want to donate me a lot of money?? ha!

the vacation started out with a bang (4 LA cops arrested 2 middle-eastern men who sat RIGHT BEHIND ME in the airplane) and continued to be one crazy lockhart family trip. let's just say i'm sure the californians are very glad to get rid of the lockharts. i have very loud and opinionated brothers (one in particular) who like to voice their opinions and wreak havoc on those in california. a phrase i heard way too much this past week was "this place is chock full of liberals!!"

but as i said before, i loved it! the place is full of natural, artsy, eclectic, hippy, organic-eating people. not to mention that it is so lush and the weather is perfect! why do we live in 100 degrees texas weather again?

while i'm away...

so i have to wake up in about 5 hours to fly to carmel. disgusting.

while i am prancing around california, a few friends of mine will do some guest blogging. for fun, i am choosing a word of the day, and they have to somehow incorporate it in their post. i can't wait to see how it goes ! so enjoy this next week of the writings of my friends, and enjoy guessing the word of the day!!

california dreamin'

tomorrow morning my family and i will be leaving for a family vacation to california. yes yes yes, we did choose california as our summer getaway and i can't wait! remember the perfect world post from earlier? well, i forgot to mention that perfect world would be somewhere in california.
