books books books

i have done far too much shopping and errand running lately. all i want to do is sit in a big comfy couch and read like a bookworm. i saw these at anthropologie and just fell in love. penguin has taken some classic novels and clothbound the books with beautiful covers. these are the type of books i imagined belle reading in the movie beauty and the beast. can't you see her dancing around the streets with one of these in her arms?

"so jacob served seven years to get rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her."

be an author

when i was young, i was convinced i was going to be an author. i would make up wild stories and keep them in individual binders. i was even told that my name, meredith browning lockhart, would be an excellent name for an author. times have changed and i have realized i can use my talents in other ways. that dream however, can still become a reality with this website.

"and this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ."
philippians 1:9-10

simple living

in a world obsessed with stuff, i really enjoy learning more about people who choose to live simpler lives. this is my favorite book about one couple who lived the the extravagant hollywood life for a while before making a major life change to live on a farm. they write about how they learned to live in moderation and appreciate the simple joys in life.

"but may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, 'let God be exalted!'"
psalm 70:4

p.s. right now i am reading this book. similar idea, but with a christian perspective.

dinner date

have you ever been to eatzi's? it's lovely!

tonight i enjoyed dinner there with two precious friends, emily and bonner. and when i entered the restaurant slash mini-market, i felt like i had stepped into europe (although this quite possibly be due to the fact that a woman with a parisian accent ordered potato salad next to me).

after dinner, i made another trip to half price books and purchased

and this.

...i guess that means tonight i'll be organizing my life and cookin' healthy.

"come, let's drink deep of love till morning; let's enjoy ourselves with love!"
proverbs 7:18

bookworm here

since i am nearly a grown up and go to lunch by myself almost everyday, i go through books like they are diet coke. so today during my lunch break (all the exciting things in my life happen then) i stopped by half price books to pick up something new.

i absolutely love that store, but can't help feeling overwhelmed every time i browse. there are just too many good books to choose from! imagine picking a book from this library.

but isn't it facinating how a person selects a book? some read the very last page, some dive into the first chapter, some find pretty covers, and some stick purely to the summary. i chose the latter and went with atonement by ian mcewan.

i hope it's a good read, because i might just have to purchase this bookmark.

all about balloons

today while i was sitting in traffic, i watched a lonely green balloon drift up in the sky.

i love balloons. i love them because they are whimsical. i love them because of they show up at the happiest moments--a celebration, a birthday party, a boy asking a girl to prom, a carnival.

when i was younger, i used to fill ballons with water and pretend they were pets. i would keep them in my sink and name them silly names.

maybe one day i can use them as a save the date

wouldn't this be a magical book to read to children? its about a man who discovers an island while traveling on a balloon.

"for great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies."
psalms 108:4
